A New Religion
One of the places I have been looking forward to seeing is the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford.
This church has a lot of history and sees more visitors than any other parish church in England. People travel from all over the world to see this church, and it’s easy to see why: William Shakespeare was baptized and is buried here. We met the Reverend Martin Gorick, who shared the most interesting stories of the church’s history and why this church is important to Shakespeare. I liked hearing about the Charnel House in the church and how it may have inspired a scene in Romeo & Juliet. Reverend Gorick also discussed how the Church of England was created and the conflict it caused in England. During this time, many people were persecuted for their religous beliefs. Churches in England still show marks and scars from the battles fought over religion. Some of Shakespeare’s plays also mention this troubling time and how it affected people in England. Enhance your Shakespearean knowledge: Learn why King Henry VIII is important to the Church of England.
School is in session: Visit Shakspeare’s School. |
