Meet the Director
Day 28
When you go to see a play, ballet, opera, or concert it is easy to see what the performers do. There are many people behind the scenes that work together to make a production happen. The person in the middle of all the action is the director. To help us understand what exactly a director does, we met with Darko Tresnjak while he was in New York City working on a production of Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well.
By the time we met up with Darko, he was in the final days of rehearsals for the Theatre for A New Audience's production of the play. His team of fight directors, set designers, voice coaches, lighting designers, producers, costume designers, stage managers and many other people had already worked together to create a unique production. Now, the final details were being worked out. Darko explained that a director's job is to work closely with all of these people and professionals to help interpret his vision and bring it to the stage. What impressed me most about a director's job is the amount of concentration, focus, and organization they must have. Of course, creativity is a must, but if you cannot work well and communicate with your creative team your vision will be lost. Play on,
