Racial Groups
black illustration

During the apartheid era, the people of South Africa were placed into four groups based on their race. These groups were: black, coloured, Asian (usually Indians), and white.

In South Africa, the term black was used for black Africans. The coloured group referred to people of mixed races or of Khoisan descent.
