Afrikaans is one of the newest languages in the world. It is the language of the Dutch-speaking settlers who came to South Africa from the Netherlands in the 1600s.

Afrikaans is one of South Africa's 11 national languages and it is spoken by nearly six million people, nationwide. Afrikaans is also spoken in the neighboring country of Namibia.
