Cultural Crossroads: Jordan
Bethany & Mt. Nebo

From Bethany beyond the Jordan. Israel, Jordan, and Egypt are sometimes referred to as the Holy Land. This is because the region is the root of three major religions -- Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

Our first stop today was Bethany beyond the Jordan, sometimes simply called Bethany. It is located on the Jordan River. This is where researchers and archaeologists believe Jesus was baptized.

Bethany is an active excavation site. This means that archaeologists are still looking for clues and artifacts that will help them to better understand the history of Bethany.

From Mt. Nebo. The next stop was Mt. Nebo. According to the religious writings in the Torah and the Bible, this is the place where Moses was buried. A popular site on Mt. Nebo is a giant serpent sculpture. The sculpture commemorates the death of Moses.

Mt. Nebo also offers amazing views of the Jordan River Valley. On a clear day you can see all the way to Jerusalem!
