Located in Southeast Asia, Thailand is bordered by the countries of Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
Some quick facts about Thailand include:
- Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that has never been ruled by a European country.
- The population of Thailand is around 66 million people. Buddhists make up about 95% of the country’s population.
- The capital city of Bangkok holds the Guinness record for having the longest name of a place. Bangkok’s official name is: ‘Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit.’
- While many Asian countries use chopsticks, in Thailand most meals are eaten with a fork and spoon, and sometimes even with fingers!
