Chris Heffernan is a World Geography teacher who has led global education efforts in his school district for over 15 years. In 2015 he traveled with ProjectExplorer.org to Cambodia as the series Teacher Fellow. He was named a Teachers for Global Classrooms Fellow for 2015-2016 by the International Research and Exchange Board and traveled to Colombia to work with students and teachers there.
Chris’s passion for global water issues has been spread to his students. Over the past three years, Chris has helped his students to raise more than $30,000 to fund water projects at schools in Dominican Republic, India, South Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya. He has received a Paul Harris Fellowship from Naperville Rotary for leading this effort and a Community Builder Award from the Naperville Masonic Lodge.
Chris’s favorite global adventures include visiting and teaching in schools in Colombia as well as playing tuk-tuk tag in Cambodia. He dreams of one day taking an ultimate road trip with his family across the American West.
Chris continues to teach 7th grade social science and lives in Plainfield, Illinois with his wife, Maureen, and his kids, Oliver, Ulla, and Innis.
